As part of World Glaucoma Week 2026, the Oftalmoisla initiative is organizing a specialized screening day on Margarita Island, Venezuela.
This event will be held at the Unidad Oftalmológica of Hospital Clínica del Este. Following recent clinical recommendations from the SOPLA congress regarding the rising incidence of juvenile glaucoma, we have expanded our screening to include patients from 5 to 17 years old, while maintaining our core focus on the high-risk population of adults over 50. Our medical team aims to provide free comprehensive eye exams to 100 pre-selected patients from these key demographic groups.
Beyond early detection, we are proud to collaborate with the Venezuelan laboratory Laboratorios Oftalmi Thanks to their contribution of anti-glaucoma medications, patients diagnosed during the screening will receive their initial treatment at no cost. This joint effort is dedicated to fighting preventable blindness across all age groups through education, specialized clinical care, and immediate access to medication.
