Eyes on the Future

Activity Name: Eyes on the Future Campaign
Host Organization: Alzina Foundation
Campaign Dates: 8–14 March 2026
Campaign Lead: Marcia Mabaso, Author of Not Devoured
The Eyes on the Future Campaign is a purpose-driven awareness and education initiative inspired by the principles in my book, Not Devoured, which centers on resilience, vigilance, stewardship, and protecting what is valuable before it is lost.
Glaucoma is widely known as the “silent thief of sight.” It often progresses without noticeable symptoms until irreversible damage has occurred. This campaign applies the principles of strategic awareness and proactive risk management to eye health, encouraging early detection and informed decision-making to prevent avoidable vision loss.
Campaign Rationale
People of African descent are disproportionately affected by glaucoma and are more likely to experience late detection and severe visual impairment. Limited awareness, underestimation of risk, and delayed screening contribute significantly to preventable vision loss.
The Eyes on the Future Campaign seeks to address this gap through education, community engagement, and strategic empowerment. By combining accessible health education with leadership-driven advocacy, the campaign aims to normalize proactive eye care within communities.
Strategic Pillars
1. Prevention Through Awareness
We will provide clear, accessible information about glaucoma, emphasizing that regular comprehensive eye examinations are essential—even in the absence of symptoms.
2. Empowerment Through Knowledge
Our March 12 live webinar, “A Strategic Blueprint for Living with Glaucoma,” will address:
Understanding glaucoma and risk factors
The importance of early detection
Long-term management and treatment adherence
Emotional resilience and support systems
The framework draws from Not Devoured, applying principles of vigilance and stewardship to health preservation.
3. Community Responsibility
Vision preservation is not only an individual concern but a collective responsibility. The campaign will encourage families, faith communities, workplaces, and community leaders to actively promote routine eye examinations and open dialogue about eye health.

Long-Term Vision
Through the Alzina Foundation, this initiative extends beyond World Glaucoma Week. The broader mission is to integrate strategic health education into leadership forums, faith-based platforms, and professional networks to ensure that preventable blindness does not silently diminish potential.
The message of the campaign is clear: by placing our eyes on the future, we choose vigilance over silence and prevention over regret.
