SUMMARY:Eyes on the Future
DESCRIPTION:Activity Name: Eyes on the Future Campaign\nHost Organization:
Alzina Foundation\nCampaign Dates: 8–14 March 2026\nCampaign Lead: Marci
a Mabaso\, Author of Not Devoured\n\nThe Eyes on the Future Campaign is a
purpose-driven awareness and education initiative inspired by the principl
 es in my book\, Not Devoured\, which centers on resilience\, vigilance\, s
tewardship\, and protecting what is valuable before it is lost.\n\nGlaucom
a is widely known as the “silent thief of sight.” It often progresses
without noticeable symptoms until irreversible damage has occurred. This c
ampaign applies the principles of strategic awareness and proactive risk m
anagement to eye health\, encouraging early detection and informed decisio
 n-making to prevent avoidable vision loss.\n\nCampaign Rationale\n\nPeople
of African descent are disproportionately affected by glaucoma and are mo
re likely to experience late detection and severe visual impairment. Limit
ed awareness\, underestimation of risk\, and delayed screening contribute
significantly to preventable vision loss.\n\nThe Eyes on the Future Campai
gn seeks to address this gap through education\, community engagement\, an
d strategic empowerment. By combining accessible health education with lea
dership-driven advocacy\, the campaign aims to normalize proactive eye car
 e within communities.\n\nStrategic Pillars\n1. Prevention Through Awarenes
s\n\nWe will provide clear\, accessible information about glaucoma\, empha
sizing that regular comprehensive eye examinations are essential—even in
the absence of symptoms.\n\n2. Empowerment Through Knowledge\n\nOur March
12 live webinar\, “A Strategic Blueprint for Living with Glaucoma\,”
will address:\n\nUnderstanding glaucoma and risk factors\n\nThe importance
of early detection\n\nLong-term management and treatment adherence\n\nEmo
tional resilience and support systems\n\nThe framework draws from Not Devo
ured\, applying principles of vigilance and stewardship to health preserva
tion.\n\n3. Community Responsibility\n\nVision preservation is not only an
individual concern but a collective responsibility. The campaign will enc
 ourage families\, faith communities\, workplaces\, and community leaders t
o actively promote routine eye examinations and open dialogue about eye he
 alth.\n\nCampaign Activities\n\nMarch 8 (Kick-off): Ambassador video —
“Why I Am an Advocate for Eye Health.”\n\nMarch 10: Educational infogr
aphic — “The Silent Thief.”\n\nMarch 12 (World Glaucoma Day): Live w
ebinar — “A Strategic Blueprint for Living with Glaucoma.”\n\nMarch
14: Closing call to action encouraging comprehensive eye examinations.\n\n
Intended Outcomes\n\nIncreased awareness of glaucoma risk in high-risk pop
ulations.\n\nIncreased intention to book eye examinations.\n\nImproved ear
ly detection through proactive screening.\n\nReduced stigma and misinforma
tion about glaucoma.\n\nStrengthened community-level advocacy for eye heal
 th.\n\nLong-Term Vision\n\nThrough the Alzina Foundation\, this initiative
extends beyond World Glaucoma Week. The broader mission is to integrate s
trategic health education into leadership forums\, faith-based platforms\,
and professional networks to ensure that preventable blindness does not s
ilently diminish potential.\n\nThe message of the campaign is clear: by pl
acing our eyes on the future\, we choose vigilance over silence and preven
 tion over regret.
