Gloria’s Glaucoma World
In this David Bowie-themed musical, Gloria, a fictional elderly lady with primary open-angle glaucoma, sings about her trials and tribulations with undergoing visual field testing as well as the challenges she encounters with other common ophthalmic examinations. This “musical” is grounded in findings from the Patient Experience of Eye Examination eValuation Study (PEEEVS), which aimed to characterise patient experiences across key components of the ophthalmic consultation journey, with a particular focus on eye examinations.
Using a mixed-methods approach, PEEEVS combined quantitative and qualitative data to identify pervasive “pain points” and to illuminate the often-overlooked intricacies of the ophthalmic care experience.
Through this creative portrayal of the PEEEVS findings, we hope to increase awareness among clinicians of the difficulties patients with glaucoma may face during routine eye testing, while also helping patients feel seen, understood, and less alone in their experiences.
