DESCRIPTION:On this occasion\, the Ophthalmology department of Midnapore Me
 dical College and Hospital celebrated World Glaucoma Week from 7th March t
 o 13th March of 2021. Apart from clinical detection\, diagnosis\, and trea
 tment of glaucoma in our daily OPD\, an awareness program was arranged in 
 our department.\n\nAll senior and junior residents\, house surgeon\, Senio
 r optometrist and B Opt. students and interns attended this meeting.\n\nPr
 of. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Daulat Thakur and Dr Sanjib Kumar Purkait gave talks 
 regarding the role of optometrists in increasing the glaucoma awareness in
  rural population and diagnosis of glaucoma in rural settings. They also d
 iscussed the basic pathogenesis and the common symptoms of glaucoma. The d
 efinition\, risk factors\, screening of glaucoma were also discussed in br
 ief. As glaucoma awareness is still very poor in this area\, optometrists 
 can play an important role in screening glaucoma patients and referring th
 em to the hospital\, apart from building awareness among the general popul
 ation. \n
