SUMMARY:Glaucoma Australia Risk Awareness Campaign
DESCRIPTION:Glaucoma Australia has launched a new risk awareness campaign 
 encouraging people who are at greater risk of developing glaucoma to get
  their eyes tested.\n\nGlaucoma is the leading cause of avoidable blindnes
 s worldwide\, affecting over 300\,000 Australians\, yet it is estimated th
 at 50% of those living with glaucoma are undiagnosed.\n\nWhile nine out of
  10 Australians say that sight is their most valued sense\, over 8 million
  Australians are still not having regular eye tests.\n\nYou can help chang
 e this statistic.\n\nWho is at risk? \n\nAlthough anyone may develop glau
 coma\, some people have a higher risk - they are people who:\n\n 	have a f
 amily history of glaucoma\n 	have high eye pressure\n 	are aged over 50\n 
 	are of African or Asian descent\n 	have diabetes\n 	have myopia (nearsigh
 ted)\n 	have been on a prolonged course of cortisone (steroid) medication\
 n 	experience migraines\n 	have had an eye operation or eye injury\n 	who 
 have a history or high or low blood pressure\n\n(Abridged: NHMRC Guideline
 s\, 2010) What can you do during World Glaucoma Week?\n\n 	Encourage peo
 ple at risk of developing glaucoma to get their eyes checked at least ev
 ery 2 years.\n 	If you have glaucoma alert your first-degree relatives and
  encourage them to get their eyes checked every 2 years from the age of 40
